On April 8, 2021 the Government of Ontario declared a state of emergency and enacted a provincewide stay-at-home order. This is a result of the rapid increase in COVID-19 transmission, the threat on the province’s hospital system capacity and the increasing risks posed to the public by COVID-19 variants.
This puts in place shutdown measures that:
– are the most stringent, to address rapidly escalating conditions, including the spread of variants of concern
– include business closures in higher risk sectors (for example, fitness activities, personal care service establishments, indoor and outdoor dining)

On April 16, 2021 the Government of Ontario announced a 2-week extension to the stay-at-home order. Complete details are available in Ontario Regulation 82/20 (which was subsequently amended on April 17).
